Burlap and Lace Table Runner

About a month ago I was surfing around on a wedding décor blog and came across a beautiful rustic table set up for the reception. What stood out to me were the table runners, just plain burlap with white lace on the edges. I not only liked it as an idea for our upcoming nuptials, but for any day really! I knew I wasn’t going to buy a fancy tablecloth for Thanksgiving so I figured this would be a nice (and affordable!) way to spruce up the table!

Fits a 6ft long table. Adjust your measurements if you’re working with a smaller table.

Supplies:

3 yards of burlap (I was able to make two out of this and I still have enough for a 3^rd so you definitely get your money’s worth!)

2 yards lace trim

White thread

Measuring tape

Scissors

Measure out a panel of fabric that’s 16” by 98”. When you’re done sewing your final measurements for the table runner will be 14” by 96” end to end of the burlap. Again, if you’re working with a small table, adjust the length.

(1.) The easiest way to cut across burlap is to pull a string out from the end and continue to pull it out of the fabric completely. It will bunch up in the fabric but just continue to pull it through like you’re trying to pull the string out of a hoodie. (2.) Once the string is pulled out, it will create a nice straight line for you to follow with your scissors.

Fold the long edge over by about an inch on each side, pin it, and sew down the length of the fabric. Repeat on opposite side until you have two finished edges.

(3.) Next, measure out two pieces of lace trim that are 16 inches in length. (4.) Fold ends inward about an inch and sew to make a finished edge. (5.) Flip your table runner over so you’re working on the backside. Fold bottom edge up an inch to make a hem and pin lace on. (6.) Sew across and repeat on opposite end.
