Instead of fighting for the best view on a hill to watch the fireworks this past Fourth of July, we decided to stay right at home, watch our neighbors nearly blow their faces off, and enjoy some delicious grilled foods and spiked lemonade! One of the items on the menu.. chicken wings! I decided to bake these while my fiancé manned the grill with other items, but you could just as easily grill these too. Mixed herbs and spices are first rubbed on the chicken and then they’re baked to perfection.. crisp skin on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. I then mixed up brown sugar, spices, and Sailor Jerry Rum to create a sweet, spicy, and savory glaze that you’ll find yourself wanting to drown all kinds of food in! It’s a good thing I photograph my food before trying it or else the only photos to show here would have been bones!

Sailor Berry Lemonade
Happy Fourth of July America! Like most Americans I’ll spend the day barbecuing, drinking, and blowing things up.. ‘Merica! In addition to the Red, White, and Booze Slushies I created last week, I also wanted to whip up something classic and it doesn’t get more classic than homemade lemonade! Of course I had to put a Tattooed Martha spin on it though and added homemade raspberry syrup and a healthy dose of Sailor Jerry Rum! Kick back and enjoy a glass or two yourself while you watch the fireworks!
Pineapple Jerry Ginger
I think I’m going to declare this the Sailor Jerry Summer and it’s all starting with this cocktail! I put a fruity twist on the Jerry Ginger by adding freshly juiced pineapple to the mix. You can’t help but feel like a bit of a rebel for using your Jack LaLanne juicer that was purchased with the hopeful and naïve intentions of doing a natural juice fast, only to use it for delicious boozy beverages instead! And it’s no problem if you don’t own a juicer, you can always use store bought pineapple juice. Either way you’re going to wind up with one amazing cocktail!
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Rum Cake with Real Strawberry Frosting
Last Tuesday I celebrated my two year Blogiversary and I just wanted to say thank you once again to all of you that wished me a happy anniversary and success in the years to come! I wish that I could have cut up a slice of this cake for each and every one of you, but sharing the recipe will have to suffice. A dense and delicious chocolate rum cake, real strawberry frosting, and fresh strawberries dipped in a rum spiked chocolate ganache made this the perfect birthday cake for my blog! Whether you have a big milestone coming up to celebrate or you just feel like cake, this one will make for a scrumptious and memorable celebration!
Sailor Jerry Watermelon Salad
With Memorial Day in just a few days you’ll no doubt find yourself at a family gathering, BBQ, or picnic of some sort and crap… you forgot to cook something ahead of time! Hit the store and pick up these six simple ingredients to make a fresh watermelon salad that’s packing a punch! Not only does this take just a matter of minutes to put together, but it’s way tastier and much more creative than showing up as the fourth person to bring potato salad! Try it out for yourself and don’t forget to save a little Sailor Jerry to wash this down with! 😉
Blueberry Sailor Tea
Personally, I’m more of an autumn kind of gal, but one thing I do love about summer, is the opportunity to create delicious and refreshing cocktails all season long! The sweetness and tartness of the blueberry tea pairs perfectly with the bold flavors of Sailor Jerry Rum to help you cool down on a sweltering summer day!
Spicy Sailor Bloody Mary
I didn’t think it was possible to love Bloody Mary’s any more than I already do, but then I had a Sailor Jerry Bloody Mary.. and oh my! I don’t think I’ll drink another one with vodka in it ever again! I used my classic spicy Bloody Mary recipe and a healthy dose of Sailor Jerry Rum to create a bold and spicy mix! I’ve included the amounts for just one drink as well as a whole pitcher full for parties or brunch.
Earth Day: 6 Ways to Reuse a Sailor Jerry Bottle
Happy Earth Day everyone! Each day we all try to be a bit more conscious about our impact on this planet. We bike to work, recycle, re-use bottles, etc. I thought I would RECYCLE a few of my favorite posts using every part of a Sailor Jerry Rum bottle to show you that ‘going green’ can be creative and fun!
#1 Remove the label and display that beautiful pin-up as artwork! You can Mod Podge the label onto canvas or do an image transfer like I did in this tutorial here!
#2 Use the entire bottle as a memory jar! Start it on New Year’s Eve or right now and fill your bottle with amazing memories throughout the year. On the following New Year’s Eve or anniversary, read the memories you made that previous year! See more here..
#3 Does the Jerry lover in your life have a birthday coming up? Create a one-of-a-kind gift tag using the Sailor Jerry bottle label pin-ups! See more here..
Don’t forget about the lids!
#4 Turn the bottle lid into a necklace pendant..
#5 Or a hair-clip!
#6 Make a cocktail or some boozy baked goods and use the lid as a garnish stick or cake topper!
See tutorial for all 3 here!
How have you re-used the Sailor Jerry Rum bottle?
Jerry Flip
If you’re not really in the mood to dye eggs, try one in your cocktail instead! I’ll admit it.. I was a teensy bit scared to try a raw egg in my drink, but I read up on a lot of good tips on how to avoid any risk with consuming a raw egg and included them here in this post! If you’re still skeptical, just think about how many times you’ve consumed cookie dough or brownie batter with uncooked eggs! This fancy, but simple drink is sweet, strong, and rich in flavor and texture. Get a little adventurous for your next cocktail and give this one a shot!
Rum Spiked Carrot Cake Doughnuts
As an adult, I haven’t been very big on celebrating Easter. Somehow taking your picture with a man inside of a terrifying bunny suit and searching for plastic eggs outside just doesn’t really have the same allure it did when I was five. Instead I’ve found a very adult way to enjoy this holiday… Spiked carrot cake doughnuts! I decided to make them with whole wheat flour and bake instead of fry them, which helps keep these a lot healthier than traditional doughnuts. I also topped them all off with a spiked cream cheese frosting! The cinnamon and vanilla notes in Sailor Jerry Rum really help bring out that rich carrot cake flavor that you know and love!
Sailor Spiked Bacon and Chocolate Chip Cookies
I had an entirely different post lined up for today, but I had the urge for bacon, chocolate, and rum! Throw that all together and you get the most scrumptious little cookies ever! Now I know that I should be a good blogger and continue on in a lengthy paragraph about the flavor, the recipe, and why you should try them over regular chocolate chip cookies, but I’m pretty sure you all stopped reading after bacon, chocolate, and rum!
Sailor Sundae Cupcakes
Every so often I’ll create something that leaves me feeling like Dr. Frankenstein.. ‘I’ve created a monster!’ ..but in the best way possible! These cupcakes are my delicious, boozy, decadent monster. A moist chocolate rum cake filled with rich chocolate ganache, topped with fluffy buttercream frosting and a mini bottle of chocolate and caramel rum sauce. My fiancé’s exact reaction was, ‘You either REALLY love me.. or you’re trying to kill me!’ I can assure you all that it’s the former and I just enjoy baking booze-infused goodies! 😉
Strawberry Blood Orange Rum Fizz
Alright.. it’s time for a little honesty. Most of my recipes and cocktails are made ahead of time so I can have them scheduled for the appropriate day. Yesterday was not one of those times. I woke up thinking I could whip this together and have it up before noon… until I realized we were completely out of ice. While impatiently willing water to freeze faster, I started on another recipe. I didn’t know it right away, but I was working with a faulty waffle iron, that resulted in a batch of soggy and yet somehow also burned waffles, and a destroyed kitchen. Things only continued to go down from there, so I decided to make myself a stiff drink, watch this adorable pig video (Chris P. Bacon! How cute is that?!), and try it again the next day with a fresh outlook. My day so far has been a hell of a lot smoother than yesterday and this cocktail was well worth the wait! Refreshing, tart, sweet, and STRONG! If you had a disaster of a day (or week), kick back and treat yourself to this delightful drink!
Sailor Jerry Old Fashioned
One drink that I have always wanted to try is an Old Fashioned, but try as I might, I can’t stomach whiskey. So why should the whiskey drinkers have all the fun?! I whipped one up with some delicious Sailor Jerry Rum and it’s just as enjoyable as its classic whiskey counterpart!
Boozy Brownies with Salted Caramel Rum Sauce
All week long I posted healthy recipes, so consider this my cheat day! Brownies are right up there with pizza.. no matter what, I can’t refuse them. They’re calorie kryptonite! How do you make brownies even more irresistible? Make them booze infused! Sailor Jerry Rum gives the recipe the extra kick it needs for a batch of gooey, decadent, rum spiked brownies!
Tattoosday: Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins

Whether it was on an item of clothing, someone’s skin, or you happened to pick up a bottle of the rum created in his honor, you’ve no doubt seen the work of the late and great Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins. With so many new tattoo artists emerging every day, we sometimes forget the men that started it all. Norman was an innovator in his craft and miles ahead of his competition at the time by being one of the first artists to use purple pigment, single-use needles, and an autoclave for sterilization. He adapted American designs and incorporated Asiatic style to create a bold and distinguished style that still lives on today.
Sailor Jerry began his tattoo career as a teenager by hand-poking tattoos while he hopped freight trains around the country. He eventually apprenticed under Tatts Thomas in Chicago who taught him how to use an actual tattoo machine. At 19 he enlisted in the in The Great Lakes Naval Academy, taking him across the Pacific to China and Japan. These ventures inspired a love and appreciation for Asian art and culture that was reflected in his tattoo work.
He finally wound up in Hawaii in the early 30’s and decided to make it his home. Jerry tattooed in the infamous Hotel Street District in Honolulu and had hundreds of soldiers and sailors lined up daily to get tattooed while on their 48-hour shore leave. After closing up shop at night, Jerry hosted a radio show called Old Ironsides where he discussed everything from politics to poetry he had written.
Jerry tattooed for nearly 40 years and left behind a legacy that still holds strong today. As we celebrate his 103rd birthday today, we know that no matter how much the tattoo culture evolves, there will only ever be The Original Sailor Jerry.
To learn more about Norman, his life, and career, I highly recommend watching Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry: The Life of Norman K. Collins or heading over to www.SailorJerry.com!
Jerry Cider
I couldn’t have been more excited to hear that Jerry Cider was the featured drink for Norman’s 103rd birthday celebrations happening all over the country next Tuesday. Personally, this has been my official drink of winter! You can whip up a big batch for guests or just enjoy a few to yourself on those bitterly cold winter nights. Either way, raise a glass with us next Tuesday to celebrate the man, the legend.. Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins.
Citrus and Rum Glazed Ham
I made a ham similar to this for Thanksgiving and I couldn’t wait to make it again to share with you! I lucked out when our friend brought over a 10lb ham for me to bake for Christmas! Glazed with fresh squeezed orange juice and Sailor Jerry Rum, and then rubbed in brown sugar and cinnamon to make it sweet, smokey, and savory!
Sailor Jerry Pin-Up Ornaments and Gift Tags
As a blogger you have to be prepared and aware of upcoming holidays/seasons. We usually start Halloween crafts in July and Christmas in August, but sometimes inspiration strikes you at the last minute. These pin-up ornaments are exactly that! I’ve seen so many fun ideas and crafts out of the labels, so I wanted to come up with a quick and easy holiday-themed idea. If you’ve tried to remove a Sailor Jerry label before and were unsuccessful, don’t be discouraged! I ruined 2 labels while trying to make this project, but hopefully you’ve been stockpiling your empty bottles so you have a few to work with. If you don’t have more than one empty bottle, are you really going to be all that upset that you have to buy more rum? Right! Didn’t think so! Pour yourself a drink and get crafting!
Sailor Berry Pie
I’m not sure why or how, but in the year and a half that I’ve been doing Tattooed Martha, I’ve yet to bake a pie! I’ve always cheated by going with a store-bought crust, but I figured it was about time that I manned (womanned?) up and made one from scratch! I knew that I had to make the filling amazing in case the pie came out looking less-than-appetizing, so I turned to my favorite ingredient… Sailor Jerry Rum! A perfect balance of fresh mixed berries, flakey crust, and a hint of Sailor Jerry come together to make this pie an instant classic!
Candy Cane Infused Rum
What’s the best way to get into the ‘holiday spirit?’ Candy cane infused rum of course! Perfect for spiking hot chocolate, coffee, or enduring those awkward family get-togethers! 😉
Cinnamon Pumpkin Rum Shake
I wanted to squeeze one last pumpkin-themed treat in this month before we transition over to everything peppermint and gumdrop coated for December. This boozy concoction was suggested by Daylen, who I owe many thanks to! Of course I adapted this recipe using my favorite rum, Sailor Jerry, to create what I’ve nicknamed.. naughty pumpkin pie in a glass!
Cranberry and Rum Glazed Sweet Potatoes
I’ve never been a big fan of cranberry sauce, jelly, or even yams by themselves, but I still wanted to incorporate them into our Thanksgiving dinner. I made this dish last year and I’m so glad that I did! it was a huge hit and now a staple for our Thanksgiving meal. Caramelized in brown sugar, cinnamon, and Sailor Jerry Rum, this will quickly become a favorite of yours too!
Cinnamon Infused Rum
Happy November 1st! We’re heading into the season of warm boozy drinks and I couldn’t think of anything more delicious than cinnamon infused Sailor Jerry. It really brings out the natural vanilla and cinnamon flavors in the rum and makes the perfect addition to hot chocolate, hot apple cider, or boozy coffee drinks!
